Best of KC: Best Halloween Celebrations

We here at Chief of Staff may claim this about every holiday, but seriously, is there any greater holiday than Halloween? Free candy! Dress up like whomever—or whatever—you want! Haunted hayrides, spooky ghost tours, jack-o-lanterns, trunk-or-treats, and did I mention free candy? And the good news is there are plenty of ways to celebrate right here in the metro area. Here are the best Halloween celebrations in Kansas City.

Halloween Haunt, Worlds of Fun/Oceans of Fun, October 4th, 5th, and 6th at 5pm

A little scarier than the Great Pumpkin Fest, Halloween Haunt is recommended for kids over 14 as the park is transformed into a fog-filled maze with monsters and other extreme haunts.

Great Pumpkin Fest at Worlds of Fun

Every weekend in October, there are family friendly, non-creepy Halloween-themed activities in Camp Snoopy. Think rides, costume contests, trick-or-treating, a petting zoo, and a pumpkin patch. Admission is included with your paid park admission and the fun lasts all day!

Hoots & Howls at the Kansas City Zoo

Come explore fun and spooky Halloween activities for the first three weekends in October at the zoo. Each weekend has a different theme—princesses, characters from the Land of OZ, and characters from a galaxy far, far away. Between the hours of 10am and ends at 3pm, come rise a tractor, explore a hay bale maze, sing and dance with a DJ, or make a wild craft to take home.

Night of the Living Farm at Deanna Rose Children’s Farmstead October 18-19, 25-26

From 6 to 9pm, the farmstead goes dark with a variety of scary and non-scary activities for families. Admission is $10 per person, but kids 2 and under are free.

Boo-tastic Fun at Crown Center, October 26-27, noon-4pm

Best part? It’s free. But your kids can enjoy performances by the StoneLion Puppet Theatre and get pictures with the wicked queen.

Spookfest at Union Station, October 26, 5-8pm

Come for the food, stay for the spooky science demos, stage show, and costume contest. General admission is $8.25 per person or $6.25 for Union Station members.

Halloween Party: CarnEVIL, KC Live!, October 26, 8-11pm

An annual event, this party-bar crawl in the Power & Light District is an all-inclusive party package at 14 bars and entertainment venues, each one showing off its version of the CarnEVIL theme, so dress accordingly! Admission is $30 and you must be over 21 to participate.

Mad Man’s Diary & Strictly Alice Halloween Party, Knuckleheads Saloon, October 26, 8-11pm

Two tribute bands, one for Ozzy Osbourne and one for Alice Cooper, feature pyrotechnics, custom stage props, fun lighting and more. Even if you’re not a fan of either artist, it’s a pretty fun way to spend Halloween! Tickets are $15 and you must be 21 or older to attend.

Scare-It Halloween 2019, Kansas City Museum, October 31, 5:30-8:30pm

Eight entire blocks of car-free trick-or-treating with superheroes, mascots, food trucks, music, a haunted house, and more! Plus…candy! Located at the Kansas City Museum on Gladstone Boulevard, this event is free and open to all.

And best of all, if you can’t find a trunk-or-treat near you, then you’re not looking hard enough. To share your favorite KC Halloween celebration or to advance your career, check out our website at https://www.chiefofstaffkc.com.
