5 Ways to Improve Your Overall Mood

Blog / March 14, 2019

Your mood affects everything you do throughout the day. Happy people develop better relationships, are more productive at work, and advance their careers more quickly. If you can change your mindset and attract more positivity into your life, you can live life in a state of overwhelming joy and calm. Life is better when you feel good. Here are five ways to improve your overall mood.

Highlight the good things

Focus on the good parts of your life. Make a list of things you’re grateful for. When you start thinking about your talents, relationships, and tangible things you’re thankful for, your mood will naturally elevate. Show gratitude to the people who’ve given you gifts and favors, they’ll continue to help you. Make positive affirmations a part of your daily routine. By filling your head with uplifting, inspirational thoughts, you can shift your whole mindset to a more positive attitude. Moreover, negative people can be a drain on your energy and your mood, so stay away from them. Surround yourself with positive people and build a supportive network.

Get some vitamin D

Literally, expose yourself to more light. Go outside! Take a walk, go for a run, or just go stand in the sunlight. Sunlight helps increase your serotonin levels, a neurotransmitter that helps you feel calm and focused.

Smile more

The act of smiling, even if you force it, positively impacts your emotions and lowers your levels of stress and tension. Your brain interprets the flexing of face muscles into a smile as a positive expression of emotion. People who are actively smiling report much happier attitudes, even if they’re smiling or laughing when nothing is funny.

Sing in the shower

Nothing can boost your mood quite like belting out a song in the shower. Research has shown that singing can actually increase the levels of antibodies to improve your emotional state and your immunity system. You might as well do it in the shower when you’re feeling good getting clean. While you’re at it, throw in some dance moves, get your blood flowing, and release some endorphins, those natural feel-good chemicals.

Practice mindfulness

Nothing’s worse than worrying about the future or dwelling on a mistake from the past. Most things that stress us out are actually out of our control, so there’s no point in focusing on them. Worry just creates a negative environment for you and those around you. Instead, avoid these mental traps by being mindful and staying in the moment.
